  • World-views are both a strategy and a way of life
  • World-views…
    • help unify our thought life (like a quilt)
    • help us in our search for meaning (like a puzzle)
    • help us gain direction for actions (like a roadmap)
    • help us be centered in our exploring (like a plum line)
  • Christian World-view is a person. Our allegiance is to someone, not simply and idea
  • Applying our mental images - he unifies our thoughts, creates our meaning, maps our lives, and centers us in our explorations
  • Deeper Purpose of World-view
    • Comprehensive strategies for “seeing” the world. Understanding how it works.
    • Ways of seeking plausible answers to the perennial “pesky” questions of life (see, handout)
    • Is a life-long process that will involve change as you encounter real life
  • Selected competeing world-views
    • All world views, including Christianity, explore three essential matters
      • metaphysics - being
      • epistemics - knowing
      • axiology - valuing and doing
    • But not ever wolrd view arrives at the same place as Christianity
    • There is not a single monolithic Christian world-view
    • There is a world-view goverended by a few gnereal and commonly agred to core ideas, and with these, some variations.
  • Triune Godhead
    • Pre-existence / deity of Christ
    • Inspiration of Scripture
    • Vigin Birth
    • Substitutionary atonement
    • Second Coming
    • Literal Heaven and Hell
